Privacy notice
Effective 10 September 2026. This notice explains how Knight’s Eye handles personal data.
What we process
When you sign in, we store the identity supplied by Lichess or Google, such as your provider identifier, display name, email address or avatar where provided. We also store session records, account preferences, saved games, analyses, conversations and AI-connection settings needed to provide the service.
Why we process it
We process account and chess data to provide the service you request, secure accounts, enforce usage limits, prevent abuse and maintain the beta. Where consent is required, optional analytics runs only after you choose to allow it. We may also process limited records where necessary to comply with law or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
Shared links and AI chat
Anyone who receives an analysis link can open its read-only chess analysis. If “Include AI chat” is enabled, they can also read the existing chat and messages added later. Only share a link with people who should see its contents, and turn chat sharing off when it should no longer be visible.
AI connections
Connected provider credentials are encrypted on our server. When you ask an AI question, your question and relevant chess context are sent to your selected provider. Free messages use our OpenRouter account. See the OpenRouter privacy policy and OpenAI privacy policy. When using OpenRouter, your request is also routed to a model provider; its data-handling terms may apply.
Problem reports
A problem report contains your description, the relevant question, position and PGN, answer, model settings, chess evidence and up to 20 recent assistant interactions. It excludes provider credentials and full model traces. Authentication is used to authorize and rate-limit submission. Reports are accessible only to administrators. Please do not include names, contact details or other personal information.
Raw problem reports are kept only while useful for reproducing and fixing issues, for at most 24 months, and are deleted with your account. We may retain non-identifying aggregate statistics without a fixed expiry.
Optional Google Analytics
If you accept analytics, Google Analytics receives general page categories and events such as starting an AI question, completing an answer and completing an analysis, together with technical information such as browser and device details. Analytics uses cookies to measure visits and usage.
Our analytics events do not include your account ID, player names, game IDs, game contents, AI questions, answers or provider credentials. We do not enable Google advertising personalization or Google signals. Google processes analytics data under its privacy policy.
You can reject analytics and still use every feature. Your choice is stored in this browser for up to 180 days. You can change it below or in your profile. Withdrawing consent stops future collection and removes our analytics cookies; it does not delete data previously received by Google.
Storage, recipients and transfers
Account and application data is stored with our hosting and infrastructure providers. Data is disclosed only to providers needed to run the requested feature, such as sign-in, hosting, analytics or your selected AI service. Some providers may process data outside the European Economic Area under their published transfer safeguards.
We keep account data while your account exists, operational records only as long as needed for security and service operation, and provider credentials until you disconnect them or delete the account. Legal obligations may require limited data to be kept longer.
Your choices and rights
You can delete your account and its associated account data from your profile. Depending on applicable law, you may also request access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability or object to processing, and you may withdraw consent at any time. Contact privacy@knightseye.net. You may also complain to a competent data-protection authority.
Necessary browser storage
Sign-in uses a session cookie. Browser storage also remembers preferences such as board layout and your analytics choice. These support the application independently of optional analytics.
